Guide

How Subtlety plays.

Subtlety plays in windows. Shadow Dance puts you in a stealth state where Shadowstrike is your builder, and Shadow Blades is the big cooldown it lines up with. Secret Technique is the first finisher inside a Dance; outside of it you build with Backstab or Gloomblade and spend with Eviscerate.

One target

  1. Shadow Blades when a Shadow Dance can follow it.
  2. Shadow Dance with Slice and Dice up, at least 30 energy and you not in Stealth - timed around Secret Technique and your Deathstalker's Mark stacks.
  3. Goremaw's Bite during Shadow Dance.
  4. Finishers at full combo points: Eviscerate with Darkest Night, Secret Technique during Shadow Dance, Coup de Grace, then Eviscerate.
  5. Shadowstrike inside Stealth or Shadow Dance.
  6. Backstab or Gloomblade outside of it, once you have more than 60 energy.

Packs

  • Shuriken Storm is the builder from 2 targets.
  • Black Powder is the finisher: from 2 targets with Deathstalker's Mark, from 3 with Unseen Blade (2 with Potent Powder).
  • "Focus your main target in AoE" (off by default) keeps Shadowstrike and Eviscerate on your target instead.

Cooldowns

  • Vanish with at least 50% energy and 2 combo points or fewer (both changeable), while you're not in Stealth.
  • Shadowmeld with at least 50% energy and 2 or more combo points missing.
  • Your racial goes out while Shadow Blades and Shadow Dance are both up.

Good to know

  • Midnight removed Rupture and Symbols of Death from Subtlety, so they aren't in the rotation.
  • Deathstalker and Trickster both work: the helper follows your talents. Trickster's Shadow Blades waits for Ancient Arts when you have that talent.
  • The helper opens from Stealth ("Open from Stealth", on by default) and puts poisons on out of combat.

Cooldowns that line up

Your Subtlety cooldowns go when the priority says so, not when a timer runs out.

AoE when it pays

Area spells only once enough enemies are around you. You pick the number.

Kicks and stuns

Interrupts on the casts that matter, at the last safe moment, and no stuns on mobs that can't be stunned.

Immunity learning

It learns which mobs shrug off your spells and stops casting them there.

You stay in control

Every spell, threshold and line of the priority is yours to change. One switch turns it off.

Subtlety spells it uses.

Lines for spells you don't have are skipped, so it follows your talents.

  • Open from Stealth (off = the helper waits while you're stealthed - you open) - on by default
  • Put poisons on out of combat (which ones: Rotation > Switches > Poisons) - on by default
  • Focus your main target in AoE (Shadowstrike / Eviscerate instead of Shuriken Storm / Black Powder) - off by default
