Guide

How Frost plays.

Frostbolt is your filler. Your spells put Freezing stacks on the target, and Ice Lance spends them - together with Fingers of Frost. Brain Freeze turns into Flurry, Glacial Spike goes out once "Glacial Spike!" lights up at 5 Icicles, and Ray of Frost is your big cooldown in Midnight.

One target (Frostfire)

  1. Glacial Spike when "Glacial Spike!" is up.
  2. Comet Storm.
  3. Flurry with Brain Freeze.
  4. Ice Lance with 2 Fingers of Frost.
  5. Ray of Frost and Frozen Orb.
  6. Ice Lance at 12 or more Freezing stacks on the target.
  7. Flurry whenever it's ready, then Frostbolt.

Packs

  • Blizzard lands at your mouse, so keep it on the pack. It goes out on big packs - sooner with Freezing Winds and Freezing Rain, and from 3 targets while Freezing Rain is up (Frostfire).
  • With Cone of Frost, Ice Nova and Cone of Cold go out from 5 targets on Frostfire, 4 on Spellslinger. Cone of Cold hits in front of you.
  • On Frostfire, Comet Storm moves down once there are 3 or more targets.
  • All target numbers are changeable.

Cooldowns

  • At the start of a fight Ray of Frost, Flurry (with Wintertide) and Frozen Orb go out once in a fixed order.
  • Ray of Frost at 2 charges, or with under 12 seconds of fight left.
  • Comet Storm with under 8 seconds of fight left.
  • Your racial goes out lined up with Frozen Orb and Ray of Frost.

Good to know

  • Hero talents pick the list: Frostfire (the guides' pick for Mythic+) or Spellslinger (raid).
  • Spellslinger plays Comet Storm on cooldown, Ice Lance on every Fingers of Frost and from 6 Freezing stacks, and Ray of Frost at 3 Icicles or fewer.
  • While you move: Blizzard with Freezing Rain, Ice Nova and Cone of Cold with Cone of Frost, otherwise Ice Lance. Blink stays yours.
What it does for you

Built for Frost.

01

Cooldowns that line up

Your Frost cooldowns go when the priority says so, not when a timer runs out.

02

AoE when it pays

Area spells only once enough enemies are around you. You pick the number.

03

Kicks and stuns

Interrupts on the casts that matter, at the last safe moment, and no stuns on mobs that can't be stunned.

04

Immunity learning

It learns which mobs shrug off your spells and stops casting them there.

05

You stay in control

Every spell, threshold and line of the priority is yours to change. One switch turns it off.

In the rotation

Frost spells it uses.

Lines for spells you don't have are skipped, so it follows your talents.
