How Destruction plays.

You keep Immolate (Wither on Hellcaller) on your target, build Soul Shards with Incinerate and Conflagrate, and spend them on Chaos Bolt before they cap. Conflagrate never sits on 2 charges, Soul Fire goes out with Backdraft, and Summon Infernal goes out on cooldown.

One target

  1. Soul Fire at 4 Soul Shards or fewer.
  2. Conflagrate at 2 charges.
  3. Conflagrate when Backdraft is down and you aren't close to capping shards.
  4. Summon Infernal on cooldown, and Malevolence on Hellcaller.
  5. Wither or Immolate when it has less than a third left - on targets that live more than 8 seconds.
  6. Chaos Bolt at 4 or more Soul Shards (on Hellcaller also during Malevolence, during Infernal and in the last 15 seconds).
  7. Infernal Bolt at 3 shards or fewer, then Incinerate as the filler.

Packs

  • Pack lines start at 2 targets (changeable).
  • Rain of Fire from 5 targets (a setting) - the guides' number.
  • Havoc goes on a second mob through your mouse: rest it on another mob that's fighting you. It waits while Summon Infernal is ready, and on Hellcaller while Malevolence is close. With the Mayhem talent there's no Havoc to cast.
  • Immolate or Wither on other mobs comes from your mouse too: rest it on a mob that's missing it.

Hero trees

  • Hellcaller plays Wither instead of Immolate, plus Malevolence. In packs, Chaos Bolt stays in below 4 targets.
  • Diabolist casts Chaos Bolt with Demonic Art while the target is above 20% health.
  • Without a hero tree the one-target list still works.

Good to know

  • Soul Shards count their fragments: 4.2 means 4 shards and 2 fragments.
  • Your racial goes out while your Infernal is out.
  • Your demon is summoned out of combat - the one you summoned last (a switch). With Grimoire of Sacrifice it's sacrificed once it's out.

Cooldowns that line up

Your Destruction cooldowns go when the priority says so, not when a timer runs out.

AoE when it pays

Area spells only once enough enemies are around you. You pick the number.

Kicks and stuns

Interrupts on the casts that matter, at the last safe moment, and no stuns on mobs that can't be stunned.

DoTs on every mob

Rest your mouse on another enemy and your missing DoT goes there. Your target never changes.

Immunity learning

It learns which mobs shrug off your spells and stops casting them there.

You stay in control

Every spell, threshold and line of the priority is yours to change. One switch turns it off.

Destruction spells it uses.

Lines for spells you don't have are skipped, so it follows your talents.

Tune Destruction your way.

A few of the settings you can change in game, shown with their default.

  • Summon your demon out of combat (the one you summoned last, else Felguard / Felhunter / Imp) - on by default
  • Lines for 2+ targets start at 2 targets (and the single-target ones stop)
  • Lines for 5+ targets start at 5 targets (and the single-target ones stop)
  • Lines for 3+ targets start at 3 targets (and the single-target ones stop)
  • Lines for 11+ targets start at 11 targets (and the single-target ones stop)
  • Lines for 6+ targets start at 6 targets (and the single-target ones stop)
  • Lines for 4+ targets start at 4 targets (and the single-target ones stop)
  • Lines for 9+ targets start at 9 targets (and the single-target ones stop)
